ABOUT THE BOOK
In her book 'The Brussels Effect: How the European Union Rules the World', Anu Bradford describes the Brussels Effect as the EU's power to regulate global markets independently, without needing help from other nations. This gives the EU the ability to shape the world in its image and elevate standards worldwide, including in areas such as competition regulation, data protection, consumer safety, and environmental protection. Unlike other forms of global influence, the Brussels Effect doesn't involve forcing EU standards on anyone - instead, market forces often lead multinational companies to voluntarily follow EU rules. This gives the EU a unique and significant power to transform global markets.
